Security Doors

Different doorways need different security doors.

Start with the opening, how people move through it and how much of it should be clear when the barrier is open. One house can use different mechanisms at different doors and still share one finish and design.

Which one do I need?

• A doorway you want to leave open for air: a trellis door folds away to one side.
• A single doorway with room to swing a door: a hinged burglar door, the swing type of trellis door.
• A simple opening where a hinged gate suits: a single- or double-leaf swing security gate.
• A doorway or patio with side space but no swing space: a sliding security gate.
• A window: burglar bars, fixed, welded or clear.
• A driveway: a driveway gate, swing, sliding, or sliding-and-turning for a short side run.
• A side passage or garden wall: a garden gate.
• A room for valuables or records: a strongroom door, made around the full opening, frame and locking.

Hinged or retractable?

For a narrow door you use all day, a hinged burglar door is the simpler layout. For a wide opening you want clear when it is open, a trellis door is easier to live with.

What to compare on a quote

Frame and fixing, locking, the hinge or track system, material, finish, opening direction and emergency escape. The barrier is only as good as how it is fixed and used. Two doors that look alike in a photo can be very different products.

Finish and warranty

Choose powder coating, sandblast and primer, electroplating or hot-dip galvanising. The paint warranty runs from one to five years depending on the finish, and galvanising adds rust cover of up to ten years inland.
