Rust warranty on hot-dip galvanised products

The rust warranty on hot-dip galvanised products depends on where you live and how exposed the product is, as declared when you order. It covers structural rust on the main body of the gate frame. It does not cover surface rust at hinge weld points (see Hinge welds below).

Hinge welds on galvanised products

Gate hinges cannot be galvanised after welding, because the zinc coating makes the hinge bearing surfaces seize. Hinges are therefore welded onto the frame after galvanising, and the welding heat burns off the zinc around each weld. We treat these areas with zinc-rich cold-galvanise paint, but that treatment does not last as long as the original galvanised coating. That is why hinge welds are excluded from the rust warranty and must be inspected and touched up as part of your annual maintenance.

Maintenance obligations

The surface-finish and rust warranties are conditional on the following minimum maintenance. Failure to comply voids the applicable warranty.

• Clean all coated surfaces with mild soapy water and a soft cloth at least twice per year. Do not use abrasives, wire brushes, solvents, bleach or acid-based cleaners.
• Inspect all hinge weld areas on galvanised products every year; treat any exposed bare metal or early surface rust immediately with zinc-rich touch-up paint or cold-galvanise spray.
• Do not allow fertiliser, pesticides, herbicides, chlorine or irrigation water to remain on the coated surface for long periods. Rinse with clean fresh water within 24 hours of such exposure.
• Touch up chips, scratches or mechanical damage within 30 days with a compatible touch-up product.
• Lubricate all mechanical components (rollers, hinges, motor drive components, wheel tracks) every 6 months.
• For fully exposed installations, an annual professional inspection is strongly recommended, particularly at the coast.

Warranty exclusions

• Undisclosed seafront location: products installed within 500 m of the sea but specified and priced for an inland or coastal-suburb site, because the installation location was not disclosed.
• Improper installation: failure caused by gates dragging on the ground, missing earthing on motorised installations, open unsealed hollow sections, or concrete and mortar left on the product.
• Modifications: welding, grinding, drilling, cutting, painting or coating carried out after delivery without prior written approval, to the extent it contributes to the failure.
• Chemical damage: sustained exposure to chlorine, salt water, fertilisers, pesticides or pool chemicals where the required rinsing was not performed.
• Mechanical damage: scratches, chips or abrasions from impact, vandalism, vehicle contact or tools.
• Normal weathering: gradual fading, chalking or colour shift beyond the applicable paint warranty period.
• Non-payment: the warranty is of no force while the goods have not been paid for in full.
• Undisclosed exposure: products installed in a fully exposed spot but declared as sheltered or semi-exposed at the time of order.

How to lodge a warranty claim

The primary remedy is repair. Where repair is not technically or commercially reasonable, Robo Door may replace the defective component or refund the affected portion of the purchase price. To lodge a claim, submit the following in writing within the applicable warranty period:

• Your original quotation number and installation address
• The installation date and the finish purchased
• Clear photographs of the affected area showing the nature and extent of the failure
• Written confirmation that the maintenance obligations above have been performed
• Written confirmation that no unauthorised modifications have been made

Claims are assessed within 10 working days of complete documentation, and you are advised in writing whether the claim is accepted or rejected, with reasons. Accepted claims are repaired at no cost: surface preparation, treatment of the affected area and recoating with the original finish system or a compatible equivalent. A repaired area may show minor colour or sheen variation against the surrounding weathered surface; this is a natural consequence of recoating aged material and is not a defect. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of a claim, you may escalate it in writing to Robo Door management, and your statutory remedies under the CPA remain available to you.

Manufacturing warranty by product

The following manufacturing warranty periods apply to the Robo Door product range. They cover defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, subject to the exclusions and maintenance obligations above.

Break-In Repair Guarantee: claim conditions

• Applies to Deluxe and Deluxe Fixture only, as stated on the quotation.
• Covers repair or replacement of Robo Door-manufactured components directly damaged in a confirmed forced break-in attempt.
• To claim: submit a valid police case number, lodge the claim in writing within 30 days of the incident, provide clear photographs of the damage, and allow inspection of the product.
• The product must have been installed by Robo Door or its authorised installer and properly maintained.
• Labour costs are excluded unless expressly agreed in writing at quotation; consequential losses are excluded; one claim per incident; modified or altered products are excluded.
