Security Gate Cost in South Africa 2026

As an example of scope rather than a price: a two-door job in Gauteng in September 2026, a Deluxe Trellis Door on the back door and a steel security gate on the front, came to about R14,500 including VAT after the 7% upfront discount. Two real anchors and two worked examples

Robo Door publishes two anchors and no price list, because every gate is made to a measured opening. Trellis doors from R3,500. Burglar bars from R1,000. Two examples show the scope of a whole job, each with the products named. A two-door job in Gauteng in September 2026, a Deluxe Trellis Door on the back door and a steel security gate on the front door, came to about R14,500 including VAT once the 7% upfront discount was applied. A three-opening job on the same basis, a Deluxe Trellis Door on the front door and Econo Burglar Bars on two windows, came to about R19,000. Both totals come from real quotations for those exact scopes. They are not a rate for a door or a window, and your job will differ, which is why the site visit comes first.

What the anchors cover

From R3,500 buys an Econo Trellis Door on a standard single doorway, inland, powder coated, installed. From R1,000 buys Econo Burglar Bars or Econo Fixture on a standard window on the same basis. Both are real products with a five-year manufacturing warranty. Wider openings, higher product lines, aluminium and better finishes move the number up from there.

The seven things that move the price

Opening size. Width and height set the steel, the number of uprights and the track length. A double patio slider needs a double-leaf trellis that meets in the middle.
Product line. Econo, DuPlus, Deluxe and Alu-Deluxe trellis doors carry different construction and different warranties: five years for Econo and DuPlus, ten years for Deluxe and Alu-Deluxe, with the five-year Break-In Repair Guarantee on Deluxe only.
Material. Aluminium costs more than mild steel and does not rust; it earns its price at the coast.
Finish. Plain powder coat carries a one-year paint warranty. Sandblast, primer and powder coat carries three years. Hot-dip galvanising and powder coat carries five years on the paint and a rust warranty of up to ten years inland.
Locking and hardware. The number of locking points, the lock type and any access-control preparation.
Automation. On a driveway gate the motor, battery backup and safety devices can be a large share of the total, and the motor carries its own terms.
Installation. Fixing conditions, posts, tracks, removal of the old gate and making good. Supply-only removes this line for DIY installers.

Installed or supply-only

Supply-only is available in all 12 Robo Door markets; installation by our own teams in South Africa and Zambia. Installed, the quotation includes measuring, manufacture, fitting and Robo Door's workmanship. Supply-only, the product is made to your measurements and collected or delivered with fixing instructions, and the installation line disappears. Robo Clear bars ship as a complete kit with one-way screws or rivets, caps, washers and a guide, which makes them the easiest product to fit yourself.

How the quotation and payment work

The quotation is valid for seven days. Prices are quoted in rand and include VAT at 15%. Standard terms are a 70% deposit on order and 30% on installation. Pay 100% upfront and the 7% settlement discount applies, calculated on the list subtotal before VAT. Finance is available over three months interest-free with an admin fee, or up to 24 months with the first three months interest-free; the application runs by SMS to 33130 with your ID number and gross monthly income, never through this website. Made-to-measure orders cannot be cancelled once production starts.

Why a cheap gate is rarely cheap

A gate quoted without a named finish usually has red oxide and spray paint, or plain powder coat. In a fully exposed position the paint warranty on those finishes is six months to a year, and rust follows the paint. A gate that costs less on the day and needs repainting in year two has not saved anything. Compare the warranty column, not only the total. The full table is in our warranty guide.

How to compare two quotations

Same opening dimensions, same product line, same material, same finish, same locking, same automation, same installation scope, same named warranty.
