What are clear burglar bars?

Clear burglar bars are strips of transparent polycarbonate fixed across a window. They are also called transparent burglar bars or polycarbonate burglar bars. Robo Clear is Robo Door's version, for windows where you would rather not look through metal.

They are clear, not invisible. You still see the edges of each bar, the fixings and some reflection. How they look depends on the window, the light and the layout.

Will Robo Clear suit my windows?

Robo Clear suits inside and outside windows in all climate conditions, and we cut the bars to any size your window needs.

Before you order, send us the window sizes, the frame material and how each window opens. Photos of the whole window and its frame help. The layout has to clear handles and opening parts, and the frame needs sound fixing points. Ask us to look at unusual frames before you choose a supply-only kit.

How secure are polycarbonate burglar bars?

Polycarbonate resists impact well. The product specification puts Robo Clear at about 200 times tougher than glass. That figure describes the material itself. How well fitted bars hold against a break-in depends on the whole installation: the bars, their spacing, the fixings and the window frame. A comparison with glass tells you about the material, not how long a fitted barrier lasts under attack.

How much do clear burglar bars cost?

Robo Clear is quoted for your windows. The price depends on the size of each opening, the number of bars, the fixings, access, and whether you want supply-only or installation.

For a useful quote, send your town, the number of windows, rough width and height, and photos of the frames. Tell us if you want us to install. Your written quotation lists the product, the fittings included, the service, the price and the lead time.

Supply-only or installed

For supply-only, confirm the measurements, the frame and the parts list with us before you order, then follow the instructions supplied with your kit. Screw type and drilling depend on the frame and the fixings.

If you want it installed, we look at the windows first and show you the proposed layout. We confirm installation for your area when we quote.

Warranty and care

Robo Clear carries a 5-year Robo Clear warranty on the bars, subject to its terms. Ask for the written scope and exclusions with your quotation, including how fittings and installation are covered. See the warranty page.

Clean the bars with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. No abrasive pads and no harsh or ammonia cleaners; they scratch or cloud the surface.

Are clear, transparent and polycarbonate burglar bars the same thing?

Usually, yes. The three names describe the same kind of clear window barrier. When you compare products, check the bar size, the fittings and the warranty rather than the name.

Can the window still open?

That depends on the window and the layout. The bars must clear the handles and the opening parts. Send photos with the window open and closed and we will check.

Can I install Robo Clear myself?

Yes, it is available supply-only. Confirm the measurements and kit contents with us and follow the instructions for your frame. Ask us how fitting the bars yourself affects the warranty before you start.

Do clear burglar bars turn yellow?

Long-term appearance depends on the material, the exposure and the care. Ask us for the UV information and the written warranty terms for the bars we supply. Treat "UV resistant" as a material property, not a promise that nothing will ever change.

Are the bars invisible?

No. The material is clear, but you will see edges, fixings and reflections. The images on this page show how the bars and fixings look together.

Can fixed bars go across an escape window?

Fixed bars do not open. Decide which window stays clear as a way out before you fit fixed bars, especially in rooms where people sleep.
