Trellis Doors for Sliding Patio Doors

A retractable trellis door is the right barrier for most sliding patio doors: it closes across the opening at night and stacks to one side by day. Why a trellis door suits a patio slider

A patio opening is wide, used all day and meant to feel open. A hinged barrier would swing into the room or the patio. A trellis door folds to one side and takes up a fraction of the opening when parked, so the doorway stays usable.

Measure more than the glass

Record the full clear opening, the frame, the floor level and the wall or recess where the trellis will stack when open. A door that stacks across a light switch or a plug point is a daily irritation, so Robo Door's site visit checks the stacking side before anything is made.

Track and threshold

The trellis runs in a top and bottom track. The bottom track sits at the threshold, so drainage, tiles and the slider's own rail have to be considered together. That is decided at the site visit, not on the day of installation.

Locking

The number of locking points and the lock type depend on the product and the width of the opening. A wide slider may need a double-leaf trellis that meets in the middle. The locking configuration is stated on the quotation.

Finish and exposure

A patio trellis under a roof counts as sheltered; one on an open deck that gets sprinkler overspray counts as fully exposed. Steel products are offered in finishes from plain powder coat to hot-dip galvanising, and the paint warranty follows the finish and the exposure. On the coast, the Alu-Deluxe Trellis Door removes rust from the equation.

Emergency exit

A locked trellis changes how the patio works as an exit. Everyone in the house should know where the key lives and how the lock works. Robo Door covers this at handover.
