Insurance-approved security gates: what your insurer actually requires

Home and business safety

No gate is approved by every insurer. Get the policy's requirement in writing, then buy a product line the quotation names, with the paperwork to prove it.

Updated September 2026 by Moira Hayes, Finance / CFO & Member.

There is no gate that every insurer approves. Each policy sets its own requirement, so ask your broker in writing which openings need what, then buy to that answer. A Robo Door quotation names the product line on every opening, and the invoice, installation record and warranty certificate give the insurer the paperwork it asks for.

Ask the insurer these six questions

  1. Which openings must have physical security?
  2. Does the policy specify a type of gate, burglar bar, lock or alarm?
  3. Are there minimum locking or installation requirements?
  4. Does the insurer want an invoice, photographs, a product specification or a certificate?
  5. Must alterations be reported after installation?
  6. Are there lock-up, occupancy or alarm-activation conditions?

Put the answer in the quotation brief

Give the insurer's written requirement to Robo Door at the site visit. The quotation then addresses it line by line, and where the requirement is unclear the quotation says so rather than guessing.

What Robo Door's paperwork gives you

DocumentWhat it shows the insurer
Itemised quotationProduct line, dimensions, finish, locking and fixing per opening
InvoiceWhat was bought, when, from whom
Installation recordInstallation date and scope, workmanship with Robo Door
WarrantyNamed manufacturing warranty per product line, plus the Break-In Repair Guarantee on Deluxe and Deluxe Fixture

The Break-In Repair Guarantee is not insurance

Deluxe and Deluxe Fixture products carry a five-year Break-In Repair Guarantee: Robo Door repairs or replaces its own components damaged in a confirmed forced-entry attempt, given a police case number and a written claim within 30 days. It covers the product, not your contents. Your policy covers the rest.

Do not infer performance

If the insurer asks for a tested grade or a specific lock, ask Robo Door for evidence that applies to the exact product being supplied. Our terms of sale are honest about it: products are supplied as security barriers and Robo Door does not guarantee they will prevent every forced entry.

Body corporate and estate approval

Separate question, separate process. Get scheme approval independently; our sectional title guide covers how.

If you are unsure

Have the broker approve the proposed specification in writing before manufacture. For a disputed claim, the Ombudsman for Short-term Insurance takes complaints about short-term insurers at no charge.
