Industrial Roller Shutter Doors: Business Buyer's Guide

Specify a roller shutter door from the opening and its daily workload, not from a catalogue picture. Start with the opening and the workload

A serving counter opened twice a day and a warehouse bay cycling through every shift need different curtains, balance systems and drives. Record the width, height, headroom above the opening, side room for the guides, and the number of cycles on a normal and a busy day. Robo Door's site visit captures all five.

Choose the curtain

Solid slats for full closure. Perforated slats where ventilation or a view into the premises after hours is wanted. Vision-style sections for retail fronts where the display should stay visible. The profile is confirmed from the current range on the quotation.

Safety devices on electric shutters

Photocells, safety edges, an emergency stop and a manual release are specified with the motor. Which devices apply depends on the opening, the drive and how the space is used. The quotation lists them, and Robo Door commissions them at installation.

Power failures

Manual release or battery backup is specified with the motor and stated on the quotation, so the bay can be opened during load-shedding. Ask for it explicitly if the shutter secures a dispatch area.

Finish and exposure

Steel components can be specified in any finish from plain powder coat to hot-dip galvanising with powder coat. On coastal industrial sites, specify galvanised guides and rails; the rust warranty on hot-dip galvanised steel depends on how close the site is to the sea and how exposed the opening is.

Maintenance

Guides, curtain, balance components, drives and safety devices are serviced to the usage level. Our terms set the minimum: moving parts lubricated every six months and coated surfaces washed twice a year. High-cycle shutters justify a maintenance contract, which Robo Door quotes separately.
